Vicky Dreiling's WHAT A DEVILISH DUKE DESIRES is a fun, fresh Regency historical romance with a heroine who managed to take me by surprise. Lucy Longmore isn't the usual Regency romance heroine. She must work for a living to support herself and her grandmother, and she has an abiding dream to start her own dance studio. When she takes a position as a maid and encounters Harry Norcliffe, the Duke of Granfield, sparks fly between them. I enjoyed this romance mostly because of the rules it broke with an independent female heroine who was more interested in earning wages to support herself than finding a wealthy husband. And Harry, Duke of Granfield, proved unusual too, when he was willing to pursue Lucy, despite the differences in their rank and status. The plot point of the dance competition was a fun "Silver Linings Playbook"-ish element that allowed Harry and Lucy to spend time together, touch each other, and get to know one another in a way that would normally have not been allowed in polite Regency society. Angeline is recovering from a ruined reputation after she jilts her cheating fiancé. Colin and Angeline have known each other since childhood and decide to marry to help each other solve their problems. What they don't count on is that the time spent together is leading to a true love. A wonderful story."
